International Experts Question Long Term Success of Millennium Development Goals

Tuesday, October 1, 2013 8:08 am EDT

As the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) come to an end, a new issue of the Institute of Development Studies Bulletinbrings together experts from India, Malaysia, China, Zambia and Rwanda who argue that the next set of global goals must be supported by greater local participation and improved coordination.

Contributors, ranging from Mwangi Waituru, Chair of the global Beyond 2015 civil society movement, to Joyce Banda, the President of Malawi, argue that several key failings undermined MDG accountability and resulted in a framework that did not reflect the realities and needs of the people they had been designed to help.
